The Spiral Press Cafe
By admin • Jan 27th, 2007 • Category: RestaurantsSouth west Vermont has no need of a Starbucks with the Spiral Press in Manchester. Located within the Northshire Bookstore, the Spiral Press merges local food and top coffee drinks with a spacious seating area that is an ideal place to relax.
I spend at least three lunch breaks there each and sometimes work there in the morning. Large tables, small tables, chairs, counters, and a couch provide every possible seating arrangement necessary.
The food could almost rate as gourmet, and may in some cases. Serving soups, salads, and hot or cold sandwiches, the Spiral Press has a relatively diverse menu. My personal favorites are the cobb salad and the hot turkey sandwich (with a special name that currently escapes me).
As far as drinks go, it’s hard to beat a latte, but for the winter there is nothing better than a cup of hot cinnamon spice tea. In the summer they brew a peach iced tea that is the highlight of my day. All of the coffee served is fair trade and organic. The food is generally organic and locally grown when possible.
Grab a book from the book store and sit for a while. Read the local paper. Write down some short story ideas. Meet with friends. All work well with the Spiral Press.
While waiting in line today a gentleman said that he comes to Manchester for two reasons, and the Spiral Press/Northshire Bookstore combo is one of them.
