Southern Vermont Arts Center
By admin • Jan 29th, 2007 • Category: Arts and Culture, RestaurantsLocated just out of the center of Manchester, the Southern Vermont Arts Center sits at the foot of Mount Equinox and provides a mansion with 9 galleries, a museum of traveling and local exhibitions, a performing arts center, and studios for art instruction.
SVAC’s galleries in the historic Yester House mansion are open year round, while the summer is filled with museum exhibitions, art classes, concerts, and hiking throughout the center’s extensive grounds. A botany trail provides a guide to the local plants, while a section of the Equinox Pond trail system spills out onto the campus.
Roughly once a month SVAC hosts a free opening reception for the new exhibitions at the Yester House. Call to find out the details ahead of time.
Many locals are especially fond of having lunch during the summer at SVAC’s Garden Cafe with views of the Green Mountains and southern valley. After lunch they are free to view the galleries during a quiet afternoon.
How to get there: from the 7A and 11/30 intersection in the middle of Manchester, proceed south on 7A and turn right onto Ways Lane at the Stewarts gas station. Turn right onto West road and then take a quick left into SVAC’s entrance drive way.
