The Winter Dorset Farmers Market
By admin • Feb 15th, 2008 • Category: Diversions, ShoppingThe Dorset Farmers Market takes place during the Winter in the J. K. Adams Kitchen Store on Route 30 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The wood-working warehouse is spruced up to make way for all manner of vendors from artisans, to farmers, to painters. It’s a fantastic glimpse into the local products you can find in Southwest Vermont.
We are particularly fond of brick-oven baked bread available, just make sure you arrive before 1:00 pm or they may be sold out. What goes fantastic with the bread is some cheese from the several farms on hand. We often pick up a log of goat cheese, but my wife will sometimes splurge on a wedge of strong cheese from Consider Bardwell Farm.
If you want to broaden your feast a little, you can pick up a bottle of locally made wine and a few apples from one of the apple vendors. The occasional farmer with a greenhouse will show up with some winter vegetables, but you can usually count of a table full of potatoes to choose from as well. Merck Forest usually sells produce as well as organic maple syrup.
If you’re not hungry, there are a number of artists and artisans with prints, jewelry, hand-made hats and bags, and a variety of other products with the personal touch you won’t find at a gift shop.
